Social democracy worldwide can only be achieved if we can feed everyone, and raise the standard of living of the worlds poor. Potentially that will increase carbon emissions astronomically, as everyone realizes their ambition to travel further than they can walk, cycle, or ride by horse. Together with the need for power, and potentially becoming meat eaters, the carbon footprint of our egalitarian dream will be unsustainable, even if at all achievable.

UNLESS WE, WITH FULL BELLIES, ARE DETERMINED TO CHANGE OUR ATTITUDES. Sustainable energy is only one significant part of this ambition. Soil security another. But even if these things are accomplished, crops themselves need help to achieve more than just sustainability, they need to be grown in abundance, without over reliance on chemicals, supplies of which are finite.

Ethical, consensual GM is a necessity.
